“We want to be part of the growth of YNHH and the New Haven Community.”

Paula and David Crombie

My husband David and I donated via the flexible charitable gift annuity. It was a family decision, based on our desire to give back to the place where I work, where family members have received excellent care—and also to the New Haven community. When we came to New Haven, we really became part of the fabric of this community so we want to support it any way we can. We feel strongly that YNHH is a wonderful resource and asset for the city, and in our small way, we wanted to be part of its growth. Giving this donation is our way of saying that.

We targeted our donation to patients and families in need. I’m a social worker and David is a teacher of bilingual education and ESL, so we both see many people who don’t have our advantages. We wanted our donation to support those folks. We chose the flexible charitable gift annuity because of all the options; it was the one that suited our ability to give. I hope more employees realize that this is a great way to give back to the hospital.

Crombie-lg-2.jpgWe’re both at that time of life when we’re concerned about our retirement so this was not an easy decision. We think it is important to invest in your community, however. We feel deeply that the most important contribution we can make is to insure that YNHH is able to provide services to people who need them. We believe that this is a critical aspect to the health of New Haven and the state of Connecticut. This is our way of leaving a legacy and being a part of the YNHH and New Haven story.
